Neil LaBute's reasons to be pretty, the MCC Theater production currently playing Off-Broadway's Lucille Lortel Theatre, will find its way to the Broadway stage in 2009.

Variety reports that August: Osage County producers Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel and Steve Traxler — in association with MCC — will produce the Broadway mounting.

Broadway rehearsals, according to the industry paper, are scheduled to begin Jan. 26, 2009, with a first preview at a theatre to be announced Feb. 13.

The current Off-Broadway company, which includes Piper Perabo, Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski and Pablo Schreiber, will reprise their work for Broadway audiences. Terry Kinney, who directed the Off-Broadway run, will also helm the Broadway mounting.

reasons to be pretty began performances at Off-Broadway's Lortel May 14 and officially opened June 2. The limited engagement is scheduled to run through July 5.

In reasons to be pretty, press notes state, "Greg's tight-knit social circle is thrown into turmoil when his offhanded remarks about a female coworker's pretty face (and his girlfriend's lack thereof) get back to said girlfriend."

The work billed as a "comic drama" delves into the American obsession with physical beauty — closing a LaBute trilogy with that same theme that includes The Shape of Things and Fat Pig.

For LaBute, MCC's resident playwright, this is his sixth work produced by the company. MCC previously presented LaBute's The Mercy Seat, The Distance From Here, Fat Pig, Some Girl(s) and In a Dark Dark House. MCC also produced a one-night benefit evening of his plays, Autobahn. Other LaBute works include bash: latter-day plays, The Shape of Things, This Is How It Goes and Wrecks and the films "In the Company of Men," "Your Friends and Neighbors," "Nurse Betty," "Possession" and "Wicker Man."

reasons to be pretty will mark LaBute's Broadway debut.

Tickets to reasons to be pretty at The Lucille Lortel Theatre, 121 Christopher Street, can be purchased by calling (212) 279-4200 or online at mcctheater.com.
