Monte's is the sort of Village restaurant - unpretentious, charming and well priced - that one reads about in novels and encounters only on vintage movies shown on TV. Here it is in all its neighborhood glory; complete with colorful regulars, celeb drop-ins, and prices that won't send you scurrying to the nearest ATM. The food (also known as the bottom line) is largely homemade and keeps savvy New Yorkers coming back for more - and more.

Celebrity Choice Reveiw
Caissie Levy (Sheila in Hair) chooses: Monte’s Trattoria
Cassie’s dish picks: manicotti, eggplant parmigiana, sea scallops in wine & mushroom sauce, Pietro’s cheesecake.
Monte’s is a portal to a quaint northern Italian town in the Emilia-Romagna region from where partners and brothers Pietro and Giovanni (also owners of Mosconi’s on MacDougal) hail.
Monte’s is the definition of cozy. Letters, awards and photos line the walls. “We had great teachers: our grandparents,” says Pietro. Pastas and sauces are made from scratch. “Everything’s fresh daily and we only use the best.”
Family recipes fill the menu: osso buco, filet mignon à la marsala, veal pizzaiola, chicken cacciatore, eggplant/veal parmigiana and veal saltimbocca over spinach and prosciutto. Full bar; wine by the bottle; ten by the glass. For dessert, the tiramisu is highly recommended.
